Singapore with the Girls (& Kids)

Here we are, lounging on Su's enormous couches, tastefully decked in our sleepwear, pasty white masks on our faces. It feels so familiar, like when we were 16 and having a sleepover, or when we were 20 and hanging out in Su's dorm room in Dartmouth.

So much has happened since then. Work, marriage, children. We see each other less than five times a year, but every time we meet it feels so familiar. Comfortable.

Things do change, of course. Now that we have children, most of our time is spent on entertaining the kids, making sure they don't crack their heads open while running amok, or eat play-doh while they make blue french fries. Our attentions are noticeably split, but at least we are together.

It feels so nice to have best friends who are going through the same things as I am as a mother. The shared sighs of worries and frustrations, the vigorous nods of agreement whenever we talk about our mommy issues.

It was a short weekend trip, but I am so glad that I made the decision to do it with the two kids (and my mom, who had graciously agreed to be my nanny. She is literally the best).
